This video is a step by step guided tutorial showing the whole process from start to finish. Scroll down to see the list of materials you will need for this art project. 📜There are also some interesting facts and historical information about Medieval sea traveling and exploration, developing of seafaring, shipbuilding and navigation, famous explorers such as Bartolomeu Dias, Marco Polo, Ferdinand Magellan, the start of European business trade in Asia and spices trade in Medieval Europe. 📜This illumination design features acanthus, sea serpent, wave pattern, dots, Medieval ship with flag and sailors. Watch how to imitate Medieval manuscripts, how to create an old paper texture. Traditional manuscript illumination requires expensive materials such as vellum or parchment paper. However, you can achieve similar look using cheaper art supplies: ink pens, watercolor pencils, colored pencils, gel pen, acrylic paint etc. Draw with me and make an illuminated manuscript project at home. 📜Materials used for this artwork (not sponsored): ~Watercolor pencils (Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer): 1) Earth Green 172 2) Olive Green Yellowish 173 3) Chrome Oxide Green 278 4) Terracotta 186 5) Delft Blue 141 6) Indathrene Blue 247 7) Burnt Umber 280 8) Pale Geranium Lake 121 ~Polychromos colored pencils: 1) Indian Red 192 2) Dark Indigo 157 3) Terracotta 186 4) Permanent Green Olive 167 5) Dark Sepia 175 6) Gold Ochre 183 7) Deep Cobalt Green 158 8) Naples Yellow 185 9) Burnt Umber 280 ~ Hot pressed watercolor paper (e.g Arches 300gsm cotton paper) ~ Sakura Gelly Roll 08 white gel pen ~ Ruler, pencil, eraser (I'm using Faber Castell kneaded eraser and Tombow Mono Zero eraser pen); ~ Waterproof ink pens or ink fineliners: Brown or Sepia Copic multiliner 0.1, black Copic multiliner or 0.1, blue and green Copic multiliners 0.1 (optional), Sakura Pigma MB black brush pen, Brushes: small firm synthetic brushes and medium softer brush for watercolors, examples: ~Daler Rowney Aquafine round brush 2/0 ~ Daler Rowney Aquafine round brush 2 ~ Princeton Neptune 2 ~ Winsor&Newton Cotman 111 round 00 🍂If you would like to support making of free art video tutorials: 🌿Visit for portfolio.
