By popular request, I went and checked out Amtrak's Southwest Chief. This video documents in detail what it's like spending 2 days in a roomette sleeper. The Chief (at least in its current form) is often considered to be endangered, so I'm very happy I got the chance to check it out. Overall, I was impressed with the experience. The crew was the best I've experienced thus far, the food was above average, and the scenery through New Mexico and Arizona was beautiful. Though Amtrak's Superliner equipment is starting to show its age a bit, and the overall scenery was not as impressive as some other routes I've done (particularly the California Zephyr).
