FanVid to celebrate Arthur Stanley Eddington (1882 - 1944) as played by David Tennant *WARNING* Video contains spoilers. In 2008, actor David Tennant starred in what IMPO, was one of his most endearing, charming and exquisite small screen performances to date. Einstein and Eddington was a 'one off' TV drama, that disappointedly, failed to pick up a BAFTA starring Tennant and Andy Serkis. In the spring of 1914, with Europe on the brink of war, no one had heard of an obscure German physicist called Albert Einstein. A British astronomer, Arthur Eddington, realised that Einstein's theories could unlock whole new ways of thinking about time and space. Despite the danger of being labelled traitors, the two men began a unique correspondence. An eclipse in Africa provided an opportunity to prove Einstein's theories to the world. Eddington, an unlikely hero, set out on a journey that would change people's perceptions of the universe forever. However, in this fan video, I have purposely focused on Eddington's more repressed and personal torment. There appears to be little written evidence to prove that Eddington was actually gay, but it was hinted at by Tennant himself, hence his research and suggested by way of a unfulfilled romance in the drama. Personally I think it was depicted with beautiful sensitivity, in what must have been a very “difficult era“ for one to be so confident and upfront about one's sexuality. This was a period in time where such notions would have been considered immoral and illegal. If you are interested to hear what Tennant himself said about the portrayal of the character - you can read more here. Hope you enjoy....
