Come along with me as I attend a Q&A Panel with “Weird Al“ Yankovic at the Greater Austin ComicCon on July 21, 2024! Words cannot express what it felt like to finally meet this legend that was such a huge part of my childhood. He is a self-made man who carved out his own niche that spoke to so many of us who didn't fit in with the masses, and felt alone. At that age, you struggle with that, and don't know yet that being a unicorn amongst a sea of horses is actually a GOOD thing! You don't know that you'll emerge from those tough times as a stronger and better person, forging your own way, because of it. All you know at that time is, you feel like a misfit and life feels hard, sad and lonely. Al helped me see that there absolutely wasn't anything wrong with me at all, and that it's OK to be different and even more OK to embrace that! Heck, we even have the same HAIR (which was the first thing he commented on when I met him!). Al's music was always there to make me laugh, and I mean LAUGH OUT LOUD throughout the 80’s and beyond until my sides hurt! And forget about whatever had been going on in my head or my life that day. His embracing his true self helped me embrace myself too and brightened some otherwise darker days.
