Xi shared an emotional moment in Hungary during a meeting with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok at the Sandor Palace in Budapest. Noting that Hungary is one of the first countries to recognize New China, Xi said since they formed diplomatic ties, China and Hungary have always respected each other, and treated each other as equals. The traditional ties is believed to be advanced by President Sulyok, who have recently assumed office. As part of the Chinese leader’s final stop on a five-day European tour, Xi was also welcomed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, Xi expressed his readiness to work with Hungarian side to carry forward the traditional friendship. The two leaders also expressed willingness to actively promote the construction of the Hungarian section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway, a landmark project under Belt and Road cooperation. The leaders of both countries had a detailed discussion on the Ukraine crisis, as Xi Jinping emphasized China's ongoing commitment to peace and dialogue with relevant parties.
