What is the world record for the longest zucchini? You’re about to find out! While it isn’t official yet, a Thorold man is confident he’s ‘squashed’ the record. The Guinness World Record for the longest zucchini is eight feet, 33 inches, and the current record holder lives in Niagara Falls. However, Thorold’s Henry D’Angela has exceeded that. “I just thought I’d let it keep growing. This zucchini has been growing since probably about June, so it just continued to grow until a couple of weeks ago,” said D’Angela. The zucchini is almost eight feet five inches long. He says he’s just holding onto it for now and has applied to Guinness World Records. This isn’t his first attempt at growing record-breaking fruits and vegetables. D’Angela says he tried growing the biggest pumpkin and got it up to 150 lbs, as well as a large watermelon. He has another zucchini growing next to his house as well; he believes that spot makes the difference from past zucchini crops. “Unfortunately, this one isn’t edible. The skin is very tough; you want to eat them when they’re about a foot long,” said D’Angela. D’Angela is still waiting to hear back from the folks at Guinness World Records, but after he’s crowned the zucchini king, he may tackle some other giant vegetables. “Maybe I’ll look into something else to see what else I can grow that’s unique or exotic.”
