Residents of flood-hit towns in Italy needed rescuing after a storm system that wreaked havoc across central Europe brought devastating floods to the northern region of Emilia-Romagna for the second year in a row. ''It is unthinkable that after 365 days a disaster like this should happen again. It's a disaster'', resident and volunteer, Gianfranco Marcolin, said. The national fire department said it carried out more than 500 rescue operations in Emilia-Romagna, including with helicopters.
