Devotees all over the world celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami on the Ashtami tithi (eighth day) of the Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) of Shravana masa (July-August, also called Bhadrapada masa) to celebrate Lord Krishna's advent to protect the pious, annihilate the miscreants, and reestablish the principles of dharma in the world.
