Hi everyone! In this video, I show you How to Make Cut Paste that you can use on your Bonsai Trees! This video was inspired by Dorian's video over at the channel @naturgeist! Check out Dorian's video!⏩ I start by introducing what cut putty is and its essential role in Bonsai care. I explain the difference between cut putty and cut paste, highlighting their specific uses and the various types available, such as those differing in color or containing growth hormones to speed up wound healing. I then demonstrate how to blend all the necessary ingredients to achieve a consistent mix that meets our desired standards. If you're making this at home and the putty's consistency isn't quite right, don't worry—you can always reheat the mixture and adjust it as needed. After this I conduct a side-by-side comparison between the homemade bonsai cut putty and a commercial-grade product from a Bonsai Nursery to see how our DIY version stacks up. Why use Cut Putty in Bonsai? Cut putty is used in Bonsai care because it helps protect the tree after pruning or other forms of cutting. When branches are cut, the exposed wound can become vulnerable to infections, pests, and environmental stress. Applying cut putty seals the wound, prevents moisture loss and promotes faster, healthier healing! Which Color of Cut Putty should you use? For blending in! It is not 100% necessary to have one that blends in but it does look nicer! Grey putty is best suited for deciduous Bonsai, such as maples, oaks, or elms, as it complements the lighter bark of these species, blending in discreetly with the tree's natural appearance. Brown putty is ideal for coniferous Bonsai, like pines, junipers, or spruces. Its darker tone aligns well with the bark of these trees, ensuring a more seamless and aesthetically pleasing application.
