(15 Jul 2003) SHOTLIST 1. Wide shot exterior Balchug Kempinsky Hotel, Moscow 2. Bjork enters room 3. Wide shot news conference 4. Cutaway of journalists 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Bjork, Singer: “Being a human being is interesting and exciting enough that you don’t want to be put in a box. I think it’s if anybody in the world can be described as only commercial or only alternative or only indie or only something, it’s not human, it’s not alive. It’s dead and I think I refuse to be put in a box.“ 6. Wide shot news conference 7. Medium shot of reporter asking question 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Bjork, Singer: “I’m quite excited about doing this album and not having a plan, just letting it go where it wants to go. For the last two albums I knew what I wanted to do before I did them. With ’Homogenic’ being an extroverted album about Nature and volcanic erruptions and romantic strings, and ’Vespertine’ being introverted and microcosmos and the sort of things you think about when you wake up in the middle of the night. So very introverted.“ 9. Wide shot of news conference 10. SOUNDBITE (English) Bjork, Singer: “As much as I adore old music - I think it’s important - so I quote Stockhausen “You should listen to new music 364 days a year and one day a year you should listen to old music.“ So as much as I respect folk songs from all countries and old composers I think it’s important to move on and to not get stuck in the cobweb of the past.“ 11. Wide shot of news conference 12. Bjork thanks journalists and stands up 13. VOXPOP (Russian) Bjork fan: “I don’t know, as a girl I liked her and she makes really cool music. She’s very flamboyant. her look is very attractive and attracts her to us.“ 14. VOXPOP (Russian) Bjork fan “The public (at the concert) won’t be the elite, it won’t be new Russians (derogatory term for Russians who made their money quickly) it will be for her normal, every day fans, the true fans, which makes us happy.“ 15. Medium shot of Bjork fans outside hotel BJORK IN MOSCOW Icelandic pop diva Bjork was in Moscow today (Tuesday) giving a news conference ahead of the concert she will perform on Thursday in the Russian capital. The visit concludes a series of European dates for the singer. She will also perform in St Petersburg before returning to the States for a tour of North America. She touched on many topics in her hour-long chat with the media, ranging from her dislike of being pigeon-holed as a particular style of singer to her current favourite method of cooking to her ideas about the album she is working on. Information about her next album, referred to as ’The Lake Album’, has been sparse and Bjork herself was fairly vague about the project, explaining that she ’has no plan’ and is ’just letting it go where it wants to go’. Some of her fans waited for hours outside the Balchug Kempinsky Hotel, where the press conference took place, to try to get a glimpse of their favourite Icelandic singer. With her strange etheral voice, her pixie looks and bizarre dress sense, Bjork has always stood out from her pop peers. She has had an awkward relationship with the press and she hit the headlines around the world in 1996 after she was filmed attacking a female journalist at an airport in Thailand. The singer started her music career at the age of 11 with a self-titled album of Icelandic folk songs. She joined The Sugarcubes in 1987, releasing “Life’s Too Good“ in 1988 to widespread critical acclaim.
