Clashes between locals and security forces erupted in San José del Golfo in central Guatemala, after some residents prevented a voting center from opening. Locals in the central highlands town intervened in the voting center’s opening as they learned that people from another municipality had come to vote. As scuffles broke out, security forces attempted to disperse the crowd with tear gas.
