For several months Beyneynu investigators have been hard at work to uncover the truth behind a devastating case in Phoenix, Arizona, where we finally caught up to the Dawson family who had been masquerading as Hassidic Jews for more than twelve years throughout the United States. After being outed in various cities along the way, the Dawson’s changed their name and settled into a small Bukharian Jewish community. For three years they operated deep undercover, participating in sacred Jewish rituals as rabbis, working as a sofer sta’am, ba’al koreh, ba’al tefilla, ba’al tekiah, teachers, and leaders in this community. All seemed safe for the Dawson’s until a Beyneynu supporter sent a tip into our hotline with informing us of the family’s new identity.
