With people living in packed, densely populated areas with poor infrastructure and terrible healthcare, there is another, bigger problem that needs to be dealt with. That is the sanitation system in India and the attitude with regards to hygiene. A study by (RICE) and Centre for Policy Research found that almost 25% of people in rural areas continued to defecate in the open in 2018 despite having a toilet. So even though India has made over 100million new toilets, experts fear that people aren’t using them. So why are people defecating in the open despite having toilets? Does it make sense?
