This song was originally written in 1959 by Jacques Brel and it was titled, “Ne me quitte pas“. Subsequently, Rod McKuen wrote English Lyrics for this melody. In 1967, Shirley included this song on her 'And We Were Lovers' album. Many artists have recorded the song. Among the most notable is Shirley Bassey's version released as a single which also appeared on her album And We Were Lovers.
