The two most frequently staged are Manon (1884) and Werther (1892). He also composed oratorios, ballets, orchestral works, incidental music, piano pieces, songs and other music. “Elegie“ by Massenet is one of the most famous examples of the elegy musical genre. Originally, this work was written as a piano piece and was included in Massenet's cycle “Genre Pieces“ in 1866 (Op. 10) at number 5. Then Massenet transposed Elegy for cello. In 1876 Massenet published an arrangement for a large symphony orchestra. Finally, a text (Ô, doux printemps d’autrefois) was written to this melod
