The BMW E30 is the second generation of BMW 3 Series, which was produced from 1982 to 1994 and replaced the E21 3 Series. It had a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. Weighing just over 1,000 kg (2200 lb), they were incredibly well balanced cars. The model range included a 2-door coupe and convertible, as well as being the first 3 Series to be produced in 4-door sedan and wagon body styles. The most powerful non-M3 model was the 325i powered by a 170hp 2.5 inline-6 engine (M20B25). Other 4 and 6 cylinder engines were available. Although engine swaps are very popular for this model, from more modern and powerful 6 & 8 cylinder BMW engines to other manufacturers’ engines. The first BMW M3 was built on the E30 platform and was powered by the high-revving BMW S14 four-cylinder, producing 220 hp. The E30 uses a front MacPherson and rear semi-trailing arm suspension.
