Ernest Tomlinson 1924 -2015 - 'Little Serenade' Ernest Tomlinson MBE was a composer of fine, light classical music, much of it synonymous with the musical tone of the 1950/60s. I hope this is captured by the images in this video although some pre-date this era to capture an earlier innocent mood. His compositions were numerous and often based on folk music. He was commissioned by the BBC to write music including some television 'test card classics', e.g. 'Capability Brown' His first broadcast was on the BBC in 1949, and by 1955 Ernest Tomlinson had formed his own orchestra 'The Ernest Tomlinson Light Orchestra' . We owe Ernest a tremendous debt of gratitude not only for writing but then also preserving much of the lovely, light classical music that almost defined an era. He subsequently established 'The Library of Light Orchestral Music', containing more than 10,000 pieces of such music which is housed in a barn at his farmhouse near Longridge in Lancashire. Much of this stuff was rescued from BBC misguided persons!!!! We honour and repect the memory of Ernest Tomlinson and must ensure that his legacy lives on! 'Little Serenade' is probably one of his best known works this recording by the 'Czecho-Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra'. N.B. The images are not all my own work. I apologize if offence is caused, and yet also offer my gratitude to any third party for their use. In mitigation, these videos are not made by me for profit and are for sharing between like minded music lovers. Jayne Anne
