Writing on social media, the owner, Ashley Whitsey, says he purchased the car in early April 2017 as a rolling shell. At one stage, his Supra was powered by the desirable twin-turbo 2JZ engine with a six-speed manual transmission but the enthusiast decided against trying to source a standard powertrain and has embarked on a slightly more unique project. Whitsey has been detailing the ongoing build of the car for approximately two and a half years on the Retro Rides forums and it appears to be nearing completion.
