In the beginning of Miami Beach's development, Jews were not welcome in most establishments and Jewish residents could only own property south of Fifth Street. Real estate covenants restricted many non-Jewish home buyers from ever selling their property to Jews or Blacks. In the aftermath of World War II, cultural shifts and an emerging middle-class redefined Miami Beach from an elite winter resort catering to the wealthy to a tropical playground open to middle-class vacationers - Jews and Gentiles alike. The Jewish influence is now reflected in all aspects of Miami Beach life. This video was produced for the Miami Beach Visual Memoirs project under a grant from the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority. #ExperienceMiamiBeach #mdpl1976
