Towards the end of the 90’s the hardcore techno (primarily the Dutch) scene almost died. This is usually attributed to overhype, excessive commercialization and greater appeal from newer genres, like hardstyle. In the void that was left many producers started making slower, darker tracks. Back then we called this newstyle (nowadays usually just ”millennium hardcore”). Many of today’s hardcore megastars like Angerfist fist and Dj Mad Dog) made their first tracks during this era. And the darkest, most evil subgenre in the Dutch scene was called darkcore. One of the most influential producers of this style was Catscan. He released his first EP in 2000 on ID&T, and the A side was an extremely evil sounding track cryptically titled ”WO III”. It became somewhat of a sleeper hit and is today considered one of the most important darkcore tracks. In this clip I’ll show you how to recreate the song as faithfully as possible to the original.
