When construction was started it was intended for the Great Wife of the King, Tausret the wife of Seti II, who would more usually have been buried in the Valley of the Queens rather than the Valley of the Kings. It was then amended to become the tomb of a king when Tausret became sole ruler of Egypt after the death of Siptah. Finally, it was usurped by Ramessess III for the burial of his father, Setnakhte – who may also have been responsible for stealing the throne from Tausret.
