The Cats were a pop group from Volendam, a small fisherman’s town in The Netherlands. They were one of the most successful bands in the Netherlands from 1968 to 1975. The band’s original line up was Cees Veerman, Piet Veerman, Arnold Mühren, Jaap Schilder, Theo Klouwer and (from 1972 to 1975) Piet Keizer. They developed an original music sound that received the name ‘palingsound’ This style inspired many other Volendam artists, such as Maddog, Left Side, Next One and BZN. ’One way wind’ is a song written by Arnold Mühren. Mühren got his inspiration for this song during a tour through Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles, when he first saw wind trees that grow with the wind. The Cats released it in the summer of 1971. It eventually became their best-selling single, while the single did not take first place in the Dutch and Belgian charts. In Germany alone, more than a million copies of the single were sold. In the Netherlands, 130,000 copies of the single were sold. This song was recorded and broadcast in the TV program Back Home on 17 July 1971. Watch our great music videos ❯ More TopPop?
