Hanging Roots Terrarium build This terrarium build is inspired by a tropical Ficus tree that I came across recently during one of my travels. It had long hanging prop roots reaching the ground that looked stunning. I am sure the tree is at least a 100 years old. I selected the biggest jar I had available at home which is about 3000ml and got to work. As usual I took my time to create a hardscape to resemble a tree with long hanging aerial roots. I used a thick piece of driftwood from one of my dismantled fish tanks as the main trunk of the tree and glued together thin pieces of detailing wood to create the hanging roots. The main driftwood had marks of Nerite snail eggs. I could have scraped it off but I thought it looked cool and natural. I used super glue and filter floss for joining the pieces. I also applied a coat of aquasoil mixed in water over the filter floss to hide the joints. It would get washed off a bit over time but the tinting will help to keep the joints discreet I feel.
