Canada: COVID vax centre soothes childrens anxiety with VR headsets in Quebec

A vaccination centre is offering virtual reality (VR) gaming headsets to children in order to distract them when taking the COVID-19 vaccine, as seen on Thursday in Laval, Quebec. The VR headset has been offered by the centre since December 2021, and is given to children between five and 11 years old receiving their first or second vaccination. Isabelle Parent, director of the clinic operating the vaccination centre, explained that the headsets had been offered by Paperplane Therapeutics to soothe 'anxiety' in young people when receiving shots. According to Paperplane Therapeutics founder Jean-Simon Fortin, the device was originally used by patients with burns. “The project originally started as a tool for distraction in hospitals, and mainly with burn patients that had to undergo dressing changes for their burn care, and we wanted to reduce the amount of opioids and other medications that they were receiving,“
