H.P. Lovecraft was one of the most promising bands to never make it, in the late 60's psychedelic rock scene. They played all the San Francisco ballrooms with major groups, had offers of management from Bill Graham, and made two innovative albums on Philips/Mercury records. Originally from Chicago, they moved to the West Coast and spent some time in the Bay Area. The group came together around 1966 and main players left the group in 1968. “The White Ship“, presented here from the original vinyl release of their first album, is probably their finest overall musical accomplishment. A moody and majestic tour de force through the dark night of the soul, it is a masterpiece. A CD release exists containing both of their albums recorded for Philips Records, on the 'Collector's Choice Music' label, and may be found in the usual online places.
