The Slovakian interior minister, Matúš Šutaj Eštok, said at a news conference that the assassination attempt on the country's prime minister, Robert Fico, was a 'politically motivated act'. Eštok confirmed that the suspect had acted alone and had previously taken part in anti-government protests.
