Not a day goes by where I don’t realise that I’m so lucky to have started my career playing with such amazing musicians.. this found footage of one of my favourite projects (we called it “Theatre of Dreams”) from WAY backing 1995, with Virgil Donati, Phil Turcio on keys, Andrew Grant on vocals, and Evripides Evripidou on bass… so much fun, very challenging of course (only 3 rehearsals), but a blast to play live in front of people.. so I’m very grateful that this old footage has been found. It’s unedited, so it’s ‘warts and all’.. but that’s how real live gigs are, musical perfection doesn’t exist on live gigs, but great vibe in the room does, and we had it that night thanks to the 300 people that were there in the small Melbourne club. Thank you Virgil for coming up with this wonderful idea back then.. listening back as I uploaded it, I forgot how much fun we had (and I had HAIR lol). And a massive shout out to Dream Theater.. the prowess and virtuosity of each of them was second to NONE, but what strikes me the most listening back to this, is the very fine songwriting! Chops without soul is meaningless… and their music is full of passion and twists and turns and great melodies and dynamics. Love you all - John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, James LaBrie, John Myung, Kevin Moore, Jordan Rudess, & Derek Sherinian. Thanks for watching. Best, Simon Hosford 🙏 --------- timeline (0:00) - 6 o'clock (5:53) - The Mirror (12:54) - Lie (20:05) - Voices (30:19) - Virgil's Drum Solo (42:11) - Metropolis Part 1 (51:37) - Wait For Sleep (54:21) - Surrounded (1:00:17) - Under A Glass Moon
