Places to see in ( Leipzig - Germany ) Mendelssohn Haus Leipzig The Mendelssohn House in Leipzig's Goldschmidtstraße 12 (originally Königstraße 5) contains the last (and only surviving) private apartment of the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and since November 2017 the International Kurt Masur Institute. The house now houses a museum in honor of Mendelssohn. This was opened on 4 November 1997, the 150th anniversary of the death of the musician and is operated by the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Foundation . Maestro Kurt Masur was the initiator of the renovation of the house and the opening as a museum. Founding director of the museum was Jürgen Ernst, who runs the house until today. The Late Classicist building from 1844 preserves original substance and information about its most prominent inhabitants, who lived with his family since 1845 in the Beletage and died here on November 4, 1847. The former apartment preserves original furniture, letter and note autographs,
