phew! it sure was bold of me to give this lady all those scales... well howdy back indeed! these past few months i have spent reconstructing my emaciated will to live from scratch (hence the delay of my summerly video), and in the midst of such journey i sauntered across melanie martinez's music through a conveniently titled track - “DEATH“. out of all the subjects she so eloquently covers throughout her discography, to my surprise my attention has been drawn the most by the theme of girlhood and womanhood. femininity is something i have rejected since i was very young, and i never thought i could resonate with femme-presenting people's experiences. while listening to all four of melanie's albums, however, i have found myself convulsively shrieking SPIT THE FACTS GORL at lyrics that make a blatant display of the struggles of women and young girls in society. this song is a masterful example of melanie's direct, yet extremely poetic way of speaking on behalf of women, and i fell in love with it the first time i heard it. on a different note (an obvious one for those who have seen the show), this video is heavily inspired by an episode of “Love, Death and Robots“ called “Jibaro“. i started getting flashes of my video when i saw this edit by @JusCer: if you have netflix, please go watch that marvel of animation. i aspire to be able to animate like that someday.
