Several enemy information sources report the use of modernized kamikaze UAVs “Geran-2“ in two modifications by the Russian Armed Forces against the rear logistics hubs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the western regions of Ukraine. The first has a 40-kilogram thermobaric warhead capable of burning out the deployment points of a number of Ukrainian Armed Forces units and foreign mercenaries with depots of RAVs and fuels and lubricants withdrawn to the rear. The second is equipped with a small-sized turbojet engine, which provided Geranium-2 with a maximum speed of up to 600 km/h, and a cruising speed of about 470 km/h. Accordingly, the new power plant also increased the thrust-to-weight ratio of the kamikaze UAV to 0.5 - 0.8 kgf/kg, which provides the drone with a high rate of climb, as well as an angular speed of turn in the pitch plane when performing anti-aircraft maneuvers. Considering the image intensifier is about - sq. m and low-altitude flight profile, the time “window” for interception for calculations of the MASAMS, IRIS-T SLM IR-ASRAAM and Gepard air defense systems will be reduced by 3 times. Moreover, “Geran-2“ will be able to implement the “slide“ mode with diving from heights of 8 - 10,000 m at angles of up to 80 degrees at a speed of 750 km/h, which will make it impossible to capture it with AN/MPQ-64F1 target designation radars, which have a much smaller elevation sector of view.
