This is a tour update of our nearly finished, earth-sheltered, zero electricity, greenhouse. It was built by the Permaculture Bootcamp at Wheaton Labs, where people can come and learn permaculture and homesteading skills (like roundwood timber framing and construction) through hard work. Josiah explains it's many features: - round wood timber framing, with junk wood sourced from the property - built-in thermal mass from the earth, keeping it at Goldilock's temperature (not too hot in the summer, and not too cold in the summer--JUST RIGHT). It is built above-grade, with an insulating earthen roof. - a 6 foot cold-sink for the cold air to sink to during the winter, so growing plants stay warm - a 20 foot pipe to passively pull cold air up during the summer, keeping the temperature just right, and maintaining air flow without fans or electricity - a stone stairway that leads into the growing space - a water-proof membrane for the earthen roof and surrounding thermal mass, to keep everything dry - natural cob
