This is a Timelapse from this morning's eruption (Feb 27). Last week: Officials issued a yellow alert following the eruption of Mexico's Popocatépetl volcano, which released a 3km ( mile) column of ash and gas on last Tuesday evening. The volcano has been erupting multiple times a day for over a week. Situated just 70km (43.5 miles) from Mexico City, Popocatépetl is among the nation's most hazardous and active volcanoes. Residents in the southern region of Puebla have been cautioned to be vigilant for ashfall and to avoid approaching the volcano. In May 2023, ash emissions from Popocatépetl prompted local authorities to close schools in 11 nearby towns and temporarily suspend operations at the Mexico City and Puebla airports.
