Rishi Sunak has warned that the world is at its closest to nuclear war than at any time since the Cuban missile crisis. The prime minister made the comments in a varied speech about threats the UK faces in the coming years, citing Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Middle Eastern tensions. The Cuban missile crisis was 13-day confrontation in 1962 in which the US and Russia faced off over the installing of long-range missiles in Cuba, close to American territory.
