This song was written based on the Belarusian legend about Vaukalak (сlose to Werewolf, but not quite). A person can turn into a wolf either by becoming a victim of a curse, or of his own free will, by performing a special ritual. The hero of the song became Vaukalak to avenge evil and protect his family. But the feeling of guilt for what he had done did not allow him to become a Human again. His choice is to remain forever in a wolf form. After all, a Human is determined by his actions, not his appearance
