Young seals are particularly vulnerable to entanglements. They are very curious and spend their days exploring the oceans. They play with anything they can find. Plastic is not part of their natural habitat, and they have no warning mechanisms or awareness of the imminent danger. Once a loop of fishing line, packing strap, clothing or any other imaginable debris is stuck on their necks, it stays. In the beginning, the entanglement won't do much harm. But as the seal grows daily, the loop starts to tighten until it looks like this.
