Brand’s lawyers said he denied any wrongdoing and that he believed there was a “deeply concerning agenda” behind the allegations, namely that he was an “alternative media broadcaster competing with mainstream media”. Brand appeared unfazed by the allegations as he performed a scheduled comedy gig at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre on Saturday evening, just an hour before the Dispatches documentary was broadcast. He told the audience there were things he wanted to talk about but could not. He received a standing ovation from his fans at the end of his show. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said they had not received any reports of sexual offences involving Brand, but encouraged anyone who had been a victim to contact them. They said: “We take all allegations of sexual offences extremely seriously and would urge anyone who believes they have been a victim to report it to police so it can be investigated.” #theheadlinehour
