Winter Solstice, also known as the Winter Festival, Winter Greetings, Winter Solstice Festival, or Ya Sui, is the twenty-second solar term in the twenty-four solar terms and one of the eight major celestial terms, opposite to the Summer Solstice. Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of daylight in the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It usually falls on December 21st or 22nd in the Gregorian calendar, with the handle of the Big Dipper pointing to Zi and the sun at 270° of the Yellow River. In the lunar calendar, the eleventh month is defined by the month of Winter Solstice.
