In 2010, for the first time in its history, the Bolshoi Opera presented Alban Berg’s masterpiece Wozzeck in a new production by Dmitri Tcherniakov. The Russian director’s aim with this bold, sensitive transposition was “to highlight the hidden sorrows of a late twentieth-century man dwelling in a megalopolis.“ Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis directs the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and Chorus. ________________ Opera in three acts with 15 scenes Music : Alban Berg (1885-1935) Libretto : Alban Berg after Woyzeck by Georg Büchner Wozzeck Georg Nigl Marie Mardi Byers Captain Maxim Paster Doctor Pyotr Migunov Drum-major Roman Muravitsky Orchestra and Chorus of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre Conductor : Teodor Currentzis Stage direction and set designs : Dmitri Tcherniakov A film by Andy Sommer
