I am going to try and do one remix a day until Inauguration Day to help distract you from the current political sh*tshow. Can't do much about it except giving you the chance to dance your troubles away with a #1 Disco hit you probably never heard of. In 1979, the new wave movement was in full force and there were many, many bands. One that caught my attention was called New Musik I learned about through their 1979 single “Straight Lines““. I bought the EP and liked their polished new wave mix of electronic keyboards and earthy guitars. A second single “Living By Numbers“ released and I have that one in my collection too. The members of New Musik when it was founded in 1977 were Tony Mansfield, Nick Straker, Tony Hibbert and Phil Towner who drummed on The Buggles Video Killed The Radio Star single. The same men were part of Limmie Funk Limited named after Limmie Snell and released “Soul Rules OK“ in 1977. The band was in flux after the release of “Straight Lines“ after Towner and Hibbert quit the band. Nick Straker got Tony Mansfield, Tony Hibbert, David McShera, Pete Hammond and Phil Towner to be his new band and was on his way to his first hit, “A Walk In The Park“ which hit #20 on the UK survey in a re-recorded version. The next release “A Little Bit Of Jazz“, remixed by DJ legend Larry Levan, filled the disco void and peaked at #1 on the disco chart for the week ending September 26, 1981. It ended Voggue's “Dancing The Night Away“ three week reign at the top, and it spent one week there. Their last charting disco entry was the #12 club hit “You Know I Like It“ from 1983. Straker went on to compose and work as a sound recordist in film. He currently tours and manages other artists like Jesse Green (Nice & Slow).
