The problem with consumerism, consumption, our materialistic obsessions, and a capitalist growth-centered is that it blocks the amazing progress we've made on the energy efficiency and renewables front. Ultimately, consumerism and consumption must be corrected by a state of deconsumption, degrowth, and minimalism in rich countries. Contracting consumption rates and embracing degrowth, minimalism, and essentialism will make a transition to a 100% renewable world that much better.
