New York based record producer, rapper, and Berklee School of Music professor Thavius Beck guides us through sound design using Mariana, creating an entire track with multiple elements in Ableton Live with all sounds generated by Mariana. In the second video of this series, Thavius shows us how to use Mariana to create drum sounds. First, we look at how to make a snare sound using the noise generator and layering both of Mariana’s synth layers for a more complex snare. Thavius also looks at using the compressor and delay to add punchy attack and spatial movement to the snare before moving on to make a kick drum using the Mod Envelope and tape saturation. Finally, Thavus shows us how to create exciting hi-hat sounds with random modulators, envelope modulation, and panning.
