Jupiter is the first and largest of the outer region planets, with its scorching skies, and has received fleeting visits from other missions such as Odysseus, Galileo, and Cassini, each contributing an element to the mosaic of information about Jupiter and its cruel atmosphere. The weather on Jupiter is limited to a rather thin layer high in the atmosphere, so when looking at Jupiter, we only see the tops of the clouds. We also see small “V-shaped” clouds called chevrons in the southern equatorial region, and we want to understand how they move in the atmosphere.
