Birmingham's first public kitchen. World war one; homefront. Children and women at first 'Public Kitchen' in Birmingham; England. Set up to encourage people not to cook meals at home; to conserve fuel. (Also looks like charity soup kitchen. Group of children of all ages standing outside brick building holding bowls; pan left on the line of people waiting for food. CU outside entrance in FG a few little girls and one young boy frown at camera in a serious puzzled way; while behind them people are turned toward the door; a policeman stands at entrance.
