If you want to work double-knitting but don't want to manipulate two colors at one time, here is an alternative method. When the knit color is in your hand, work knit 1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front. When the purl color is in your hand, work slip 1 purlwise with yarn in back, purl 1. In other words, move the yarn back and forth as for 1×1 ribbing, but only work the stitch if the correct color is in your hand.
