Want to know more about gouache? Download my free 20-page PDF, “Everything You Need To Know About Gouache“: I think I have worked on this painting for about three hours. I can't provide a reference for it, but you don't need one - these roses could have been any roses. I love to paint roses because their petals often consist of many different colors and shades. Those colors combined with the cool reflection from the sky and warm reflected light from the ground create a really rainbow-like palette and spark imagination. Even though I have worked on those buds a lot trying to fill them with light, I still tried to keep their shapes simple without creating a sharp focus or adding too much detail. Flowers are soft creatures and we usually see them as a light pattern of soft rounded shapes of different colors against a darker mass of the foliage (in this case the sky) so I paint them exactly like this without defining separated petals or leaves.
