Crazy Chase was a Remake of the SNES game, Kid Klown In Crazy Chase, Which, despite what the internet says, I think is a great time, with great graphics, an awesome soundtrack, and tight gameplay. So when I heard Kemco remade it for the gba, I was actually excited, but after playing it, I have got to say that it is the worst kid klown game by far, it’s buggy, the controls are just deadass awful, the music isn’t the best, and it has some bull shit padding, basically, after beating stage 8, The developers decided to re-use the assets from stage 1 to 8, so while the layout is different, the environment is the same, the game pulled a Bubsy 2 if you know what I mean.. But anyways, When looking up for some more information about the game (since there was only one person credited for the whole entire fucking game) I found out that there was a prototype and E3 demo for the game. The Rom for the prototype was pretty much lost at the time, with only a few screenshots of it, showing that the prototype has a stage selection and a no damage mode. The E3 Demo was even worse, almost no images were available until recently on Moby games, but still no available rom for any of these builds where found… Until now! As of now, the rom for the Prototype has been found! Unfortunately the e3 demo is still lost but I’ll take what I can get! So I played it, and boy if you thought the final game was buggy, this prototype was even worse, I can see why there was a stage selection menu in the beginning, because their was a glitch in stage 10 where the camera would stop following you, and started to pan down until you see nothing but the background (24:16) in fact, I had to restart my emulator a couple of times when playing because of many other bugs, and I think I know why this build was super sloppy, the developers were apparently rushed to program the game, which is why the Japanese release got cancelled. Also for some reason, there is no ending cutscene when you finish the final stage, you just get booted back to the title screen. There aren’t much differences, but the most noticeable one is in stage 8 and 16, where the castle had completely different assets and graphics compared to the final game, a lot more original sprite work was done, including some new graphics for the walls, like a portrait of BlackJack, some Pilers, and a flag with a cross, is there a Klown god? Who knows? All jokes aside Though, it looks like a lot more effort went into it in my opinion, compared to the final game where most of the graphics for the castle stage were ripped straight from Kid Klown In Crazy Chase 2. Overall this was an interesting piece of media found, would I say it’s better than the final game? Nope, this is still an awful remake, but I’m glad it’s no longer lost, here’s hoping that the E3 Demo gets found somewhere, if you want to download the rom yourself, I linked a download link That I posted on Internet Archive!
