Kronos Quartet is an American string quartet founded by violinist David Harrington in 1973 in Seattle, Washington. Since 1978, the quartet has been based in San Francisco, California. Formed with the specific intention of performing works by 20th Century composers exclusively, the Kronos Quartet have helped to expand the public's knowledge of contemporary classical composers while introducing a fresh audience to art music with their bold and innovative approach.
