In a statement released on social media platform X, the base said that the decision was based on intelligence information indicating a potential threat and that all non-mission essential staff have been sent home. A spokesperson for the base in Gelsenkirchen said that the threat level had been raised to “Charlie“, the second highest of four alert states.
