For decades, he fought for a retrial, and it was only after 44 years that DNA testing confirmed his innocence. The charges against Iwao Hakamada were finally dropped. The man got into the Guinness Book of Records as the prisoner who waited the longest for the execution of the sentence — capital punishment.
