Been working on a little bit of traditional animation and I figured I'd share this trick! I'm not sure how well known it is, but when I first discovered it I was the only person in my friend group who knew about it, so maybe it'll help some of you guys out too! This trick should work for all versions of Toon Boom Harmony (though I haven't personally tested it in Essentials) HOW TO DO IT: Under the “select“ tool properties, toggle either “apply to all frames“ or “apply to onion skin range“ Set your fill bucket to “paint unpainted“ Click or drag your fill bucket to colour the area(s) you want to be coloured across all/multiple frames! That's the basic explanation, but I'll explain things in a bit more detail down here. Applying to all frames is pretty straightforward, applying to the onion skin range applies to the frames that are also visible using the onion skin, if your onion skin is turned off it will only colour the frame you're currently on. I like to use both options in combination! The onion skin option is great for small targeted areas, like how I used it to colour the eyes, before going in to apply the main colour with the all frames option. Because the fill bucket is set to paint uncoloured it won't be placed on top of anything you've already filled. You can experiment with a lot of different options, but that's how I use it 95% of the time! You may have noticed I already coloured the mouth before doing these tricks. While I could have used the onion skin option for the mouth, the teeth were too small to properly be targeted and because the mouth moved positions a lot it was more worth it to just go frame by frame for that. If you're struggling with smaller elements like that using this method, chances are it will just be faster to colour them individually, and then you can apply to multiple frames for the bigger stuff. I hope this explanation is useful to my fellow animators out there! If you liked the video or found this helpful, a like or follow would be super appreciated!
